Thursday, April 8th
There was lots of sunshine and no wind (finally!) as our Barcelona students traveled north from Santa Fe to visit Santuario de Chimayo, an historic church built on the site of what many believe to be a miracle associated with the crucifix of "Nuestro Señor de Esquipulas" (Our Lord of Esquipulas). The group was accompanied by Prep staff members Christella Velarde, Antoinette Roybal and Miguel Gabaladon, all of whom can trace their ancestry directly back to Spain.
After a special tour of the Santuario, students enjoyed lunch at Rancho de Chimayo, a restaurant located in an historic hacienda in the beautiful Chimayo Valley. They ended the day with a soak at the mineral hot springs of Ojo Caliente.

Wednesday, April 7th
Today, students visited the Capitol building, San Miguel Mission Church, Loretto Chapel, the Palace of the Governors and the New Mexico History Museum. The group was guided by middle school New Mexico history teacher Marisa Perez, who tried to show students how different cultures influenced the development of Santa Fe. After a burrito lunch on the historic plaza, students returned to school and either went home with their hosts or stayed to watch the boys lacrosse team beat rival team Sandia Prep 10-3.

They're Here!
Our friends from Barcelona arrived safe and sound last night. After collecting baggage, we headed to Santa Fe on the Santa Fe Prep "Griffin Express" bus. Host families were waiting at school to pick up our travel-weary friends and take them home for dinner and bed.
Everyone was back at school bright and early this morning for a welcome and campus tour. After a short discussion and introduction to New Mexico from Olga Herrera and Prep history teacher Marisa Perez, the students will visit Santa Fe's historic plaza, have lunch and then have a special tour of the Palace of the Governors and the New Mexico History Museum.

Counting Down to April 6th
Greetings from Santa Fe to our Barcelona friends. We are having lots of fun planning your visit and look forward to welcoming you on April 6th. It snowed today while we were taking this photo, but it's always sunny in Santa Fe so we should have clear skies and warmer weather during your visit.
